ASHES 2019: "Joe Root under 'no pressure' despite Ashes failure," says head coach Trevor Bayliss

England are trailing Australia 2-1 in the five-match Ashes series and captain Joe Root has not been up to the mark with the bat as well. However, there is still no pressure on him according to coach Trevor Bayliss.

Bayliss supported Root saying, “He’s not come under question from anyone making any decisions. He’s under no pressure at all. Everyone goes through periods where they don’t score as many runs as they’d like.

I think the Australian team have bowled pretty well to him, so we’ll see how things go further down the line. From my point of view, he was our premier batter and the Australians always try and target the opposition captain. He’s played well when he’s got starts and I don’t see too many problems,” he added.

The Australian players were ecstatic after retaining the Ashes with a win in the fourth Test at Manchester. They celebrated wildly on the ground and there was some news about Steve Smith mocking England spinner Jack Leach during the celebration. Although, Bayliss rubbed it off calling them rumours.

Fake news, like Donald Trump says. No one has mentioned it or spoken about it. It’s all talk from you guys (the media),” he said.

The 56-year-old coach is terminating his contract with the England cricket team after four successful years. He is happy with the way his campaign took the path with the World Cup victory being a cherry on the top and is sad with the fact that he will be leaving the side.

He said, “On one hand I am sad to be leaving. It’s been a fantastic environment to work in, everyone has made me feel at home. From a cricket sense we’ve had a lot of good performances, the cherry on top the World Cup win. But I am looking forward to getting home and it’s time for someone else to come in with a new voice.
