Australia put up a fabulous performance in the fourth Test at Old Trafford to register an Ashes-retaining 185-run victory over England on Sunday (September 8).
The Australian cricketers were over the moon after the win, jumping in delight as soon as the review for the final wicket showed the decision in their favour. The celebrations ran late into the evening in Manchester.
However, in their celebration, people noticed something interesting. Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith was seen mocking Jack Leach as he tried batting left-handed and what was also amusing was to see him sporting glasses which are similar to the English spinner.
Leach was part of a 73-run last wicket partnership with the rampaging Ben Stokes, who took England home with his jaw-dropping 135 not out in the third Test at Headingley.
After that heart-stopping win, Leach earned himself a free supply of spectacles for life as Stokes used the power of social media to make agree sponsors Specsavers for a commitment to fulfill the same.
England Journalist David Coverdale also confirmed with a tweet that “Steve Smith just been taking the piss out of Jack Leach by putting on glasses and shadow batting left handed in the middle of the team huddle.”
Smith, who missed the third Test at Headingley due to concussion, scored 211 and 82 across the two innings in Manchester to script an urn-retaining victory for Australia. Earlier, the No. 1 Test batsman had compiled twin tons (144 and 142) at Edgbaston to secure the Ashes opener for Australia.
