Former Australia captain Steve Smith is looking unstoppable in the ongoing Ashes 2019. He again reached a half-century on the first day of Manchester Test and currently batting on 60*.
Smith was finding it easy to score off the back foot, as his weight was mostly on the back expecting a bouncer. Whenever he got a short ball, the Aussie stalwart put it away for runs. But there were some pleasant drives too. One of them was played on a widish delivery which went for a four and completed his fifty.
It was the 39th over of Australia's innings when bowler Ben Stokes bowled a full wide delivery, but Smith still tried to reach out. He eventually managed to find a good connection on it. The ball raced away for a four, and the fans weren't surprised. Smith often plays unorthodox shots.
Here is the video clip of the shot:
Australia ended with 170/4 on the first day. Apart from Smith, Marnus Labuschagne scored a half-century. Sadly, only 44 overs of cricket was possible on an opening day at Old Trafford.
