Ashes 2019: James Anderson on road to prove his fitness for fourth Test at old Trafford

Anderson attempted to prove his fitness in Lancashire second XI friendly.

England's all-time leading Test wicket-taker James Anderson continues his recovery from the calf injury that he reaggravated in the first Ashes 2019 Test, as the paceman has taken a step forward to prove his fitness for the fourth Ashes Test in a four-day friendly.

In a bid to make his England return on his home ground of Old Trafford, Manchester from 4th September in the fourth Ashes Test, Anderson tested out his fitness with Lancashire’s 2nd XI against Durham 2nd XI at Chester Boughton Hall CC on Tuesday, 27th August.

He bowled 20 overs with no sign of injury or pain en route to figures of 1/38 against Durham 2nd XI, as the 37-year-old is keen on proving his match fitness in the ongoing 2nd XI match to make his comeback in the fourth Test having missed the second and third Ashes Test against Australia.

As part of his rehabilitation program, Anderson was also earlier featured for Lancashire’s second XI against Leicestershire’s second string last week, picking up two wickets in his first outing since the Edgbaston Test against Australia.

If Anderson manages to play without getting injured, the right-arm pacer could reclaim his spot in the England squad for the Old Trafford Test, as the hosts will name their squad for the fourth Ashes Test later this week with the Ashes series at 1-1 at Headingley.
