Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been more often than not criticized for his poor shot selection. He has thrown his wicket away not only at crucial junctures but at any juncture of the game. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels that he is extremely talented but needs to be groomed well.

Sehwag told PTI, “Pant is an extremely talented cricketer with huge potential. It will be important that he is groomed well. And now that he has been assured some quality time in the team it is important that he makes the best use of the opportunity and works to better his game and develop as a cricketer.

Pant scored 24 and 7 in both innings of the first Test in Antigua as India beat West Indies by a big margin of 318 runs to mark the start of their World Test Championship campaign. India are now level with Sri Lanka and New Zealand at 60 points. The Delhi-born dashing cricketer also commented on the hopes of India going on to win the inaugural edition of the competition.

He said, “Two years is a long time. Yes, the team is in good hands. I wish Ravi Shastri all the luck for his second innings and Virat Kohli all the very best. We have good bench strength, quality fast bowlers and spinning prospects. We need to now settle the team combinations.

India will face the West Indies in the second Test starting from 30 August at Kingston in Jamaica. Going by the standards set by the players from both teams in the first Test, it is likely that the visiting team will end the tour without a loss. If so, India will be the first team to win a series in the ICC World Test Championship.
