Ashes 2019: James Anderson overwhelmed by Jofra Archer's impact in international cricket

Anderson has some words of caution for England over Archer.

Veteran England paceman James Anderson was overwhelmed by his teammate Jofra Archer's charisma on the field in the ongoing Ashes 2019 against Australia at home.

Ever since bursting onto the international scene, though he had already grabbed the limelight with his franchise T20s show before making debut for England. Archer has made a great impact on one and all within just three months of his international career with the Lions.

In just over three months, Archer is already a World Cup winner, playing a key role in England’s World Cup 2019 triumph, delivering a brilliant Super Over in the Final against New Zealand.

Now, the pacer has been making headlines for his fiery and incredible bowling show in the five-match Test series at home against Australia. Jofra Archer first helped England to draw the second Ashes Test, and then he once again wreaked the havoc of Australians in the first innings of ongoing third Ashes Test with his superb match figures of 6/45 in just 17.1 overs to bowl the tourists out for just 179 in Headingley.

Impressing by Archer's marvelous impact in such a short span in international cricket, Anderson believes that his impact upon arrival unparalleled while hailing his cool temperament.

Anderson told BBC Radio 5 live, “I don’t know if any player has had such an impact on international cricket in the first three months of their career. Winning the World Cup, bowling the Super Over to win the World Cup for England, and then Test debut, I think his match figures were something like 5/75 [5/91] off 44 overs.”

The paceman continued, “Sometimes, you see people burst onto the scene, but the pressure of doing it day in and day out, the expectations built upon people. I just don’t see this happening with Jofra. The way about him, his temperament, the persona is just so calm and collected and calculating. He knows his game really well and he’s oozing confidence. It’s just really exciting for an English fan, even English cricket. I’d love to bowl at the other end to him and play in the same team as him.

However, he has some word of caution for England concerning Archer, suggesting the side to not put too much workload on the latest pace sensation.

Anderson signed off by saying, “I think the only danger with him is that he bowled a lot of overs. He’s the sort of guy who’d probably be a nightmare for a captain because you can’t get the ball out of his hand. He wants to bowl all the time; he’s got action and a run-up that doesn’t really take much out of him. But, still, we’ve got to be careful we don’t over-bowl him too much, and just look after him a little bit.”
