England opener Jason Roy became the latest victim of getting hit by the ball on the helmet. The only difference in Roy’s case is that it happened during a practice session. He passed the concussion tests and seemed to be in no discomfort for the rest of the practice session.

On Tuesday, Roy was facing a few throw-downs from Marcus Trescothick when he got hit. The team physio quickly conducted the concussion tests and felt that Roy was okay to bat further. Another test was carried out on the opener on Wednesday morning before practice. He passed that test as well.

The aggressive opener will be undergoing another test before the first day’s play on Thursday. The England camp have unofficially kept Ollie Pope on hold to replace Roy, if he fails the last concussion test. Although, it is highly unlikely. Some concussion-related problems have delayed consequences, which is why so many tests are needed.

If at all Roy is deemed unfit to play, Pope will probably get a place in the eleven. In that case, Denly will be pushed up to open the batting alongside Rory Burns and Pope will fit in the middle order.

The third Ashes Test will begin on 22 August at Headingley, Leeds.
