ASHES 2019: Justin Langer backs David Warner to come good in the Lord's Test

Langer also lauded Steve Smith for his ability to deal with his problems.

Australian opener David Warner got the backing of coach Justin Langer ahead of the second Ashes Test. Warner was out of touch in the first game and could only score a total of 10 runs in the match.

Steve Smith and Warner both played their first Test after returning from a 12-month-lengthy ban for ball-tampering scandal. The Aussie opener may have failed, but Smith played a couple of magnificent innings and scored hundreds.

But Langer believes in Warner and feels the Lord's Test could be his game to leave a mark in the series.

"I like it when great players miss out. It means statistically they'll probably get some pretty soon, so hopefully it's this Test," cricket.com.au quoted Langer as saying.

"They're great players for a reason, and he's got that look in his eye," he added.

Langer also commented on claims of Smith's weakness. He thinks the former Australian captain is capable of solving his problems.

"I don't buy into it. He's got this incredible ability to solve problems, and I'm sure he'll be thinking a lot about he's going to play all the new bowlers who are coming in," Langer said.

"He had three or four days off ... you've just got to recognize they're humans and they've got a certain amount of battery, and you try and recharge them for every big event," he added.
