The first Ashes Test in Birmingham had already become epic at stumps on Day 4. On the fifth day, England opener Rory Burns added another highlight to the Test and to his career by batting on all five days of the match.

Burns came out to bat for the remaining two overs on Day 1. He remained not out on an entire Day 2. He finally got out for a well-made 133 on Day 3. He once again came out to survive the last seven overs of the penultimate day before getting out for 11 on the final day of the match.

By batting on all the five days, the 28-year-old became the fourth England batsman to achieve the feat. He is now the only Englishman apart from Geoffrey Boycott to do it in an Ashes Test. While the other two England batsmen are Allan Lamb and Andrew Flintoff.

In Tests, six other batsmen have batted on all five days in a Test. Here is the list of the players: ML Jaisimha (IND), Kim Hughes (AUS), Ravi Shastri (IND), AFG Griffith (WI), Alviro Peterson (SA) and Cheteshwar Pujara (IND).

At the time of writing this article, England was tottering at 85/4 on the fifth day to save the Test match while chasing 398 against a motivated Australian bowling attack.
