Women’s World T20: Twitter elated as Mithali Raj's 56 helps India register 7 wickets win over Pakistan

India and Pakistan women faced off against one another in a much-anticipated match in the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 2018 in Guyana’s Providence Stadium.

Indian captain Harmanpreet won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first. Pakistan’s innings was a tale of two fifties by Bismah Mahroof (53 in 49 balls; 4x4s) and Nida Dar (52 in 35 balls; 5x4s, 2x6s) as they added 93 important runs to take Pakistan to 133/7 in 20 overs.

Dayalan Hemalatha picked 2/34 and Poonam Yadav picked 2/22 in their four overs, with Arundhati Reddy picking a wicket as well.

India was handed a gift of 10 extra runs before beginning their innings, as Pakistani batswoman were penalized five runs two times by the umpires for running on the danger area on the pitch.

Despite that, India scored 73 runs in 9.3 overs with Smriti Mandhana making 26 in 28 balls and falling to Bismah. Mithali Raj anchored one end from there on. Rodrigues made 16, before being caught and bowled by Dar.

Skipper Harmanpreet joined Mithali Raj, who upped her striking shots and made 56 in 47 balls with 7 fours. She was dismissed by Diana Baig. Harmanpreet Kaur finished the match, along with Veda Krishnamurthy, who hitting the winning four.

India Women won the match with 7 wickets in hand and registered their second straight win in the group, while Pakistan lost their second consecutive match.

Twitter was elated with the performance of Mithali Raj and the Indian bowlers as they helped beat the archrivals and praised the Indian women’s team.
