Indian women's cricket team will play their first game of ICC Women's World T20 2018 on Friday against New Zealand. As they gear up for their opening encounter, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur she has tried to sync her batting with the captaincy. Her style of play is developing as per her role as captain.

Harmanpreet also added she has learned to stay calm on the field which is important to keep the ideas flowing in. “Earlier, I was always aggressive on the field. I have learned how I can stay calm. Because, now it’s not just about how I am playing for my team, but how can I [inspire] performance from other players also,” Kaur said. She added that when thinks doesn't go well, she has to think about other players as well. “So, sometimes, even when things didn’t work out for me, I have to think about the other players also."

Apart from guiding her team towards winning, Kaur also believes it is important to support her younger teammates who need her backing to build confidence. “When you have a young player, you need to support them and back up whatever they’re doing on the field and that’s what I’m trying to do,” she said.

Indian women's team has done well with their available bowling attack in T20I. Talking about it the 29-year-old said, “I think [the bowlers] are doing really well right now and that’s what I’m expecting from them. There is no pressure on them. And [in T20s], whether they’re getting success or not … I know we have to accept that as a bowling unit, sometimes the batter will attack us. But, how we come back and how we perform in the next game, that’s more important."

It's always good to go with a plan and that's what Kaur tells her bowlers. “That’s what as a captain I told them: just stick to your plans. Because, if you are bowling according to our plans and don’t get success, that is something we (the management) have to look into, and not you,” he said.’

India has some tough competitors in the group. They are placed in Group B with Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
