Mithali Raj to lead India in ICC Women's World Cup 2022; no place for Jemimah Rodrigues, Shikha Pandey

The tournament is scheduled to be played in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday (January 6) announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2022. The team is going to be led by veteran India women's cricketer Mithali Raj. 

Harmanpreet Kaur has been named the vice-captain of the squad which includes star batter Smriti Mandhana, veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami and the talented opener Shafali Verma.

Fast bowler Shikha Pandey and batter Jemimah Rodrigues are among the big misses in the squad. The tournament is scheduled to be played in New Zealand from March 4 to April 3.

Jemimah last played an ODI match for India on England tour, in 2021, and she couldn't score in double figures. Her last half-century came in 2019 against West Indies, and since then she has batted in five ODIs with a total of 22 runs. 

Shikha too featured on England tour last year and managed to pick only two wickets in the three-match ODI series.  

The same squad will also play the 5-match ODI series in New Zealand in February. BCCI have also named a squad for the one-off T20I match against New Zealand. 

India's World Cup campaign will begin against arch-rivals Pakistan on March 6 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
