Australia and India locked horns with each other in the final of the Women's T20I tri-series 2020 at Junction Oval in Melbourne on Wednesday (February 12).

Opting to bat first, the hosts rode on Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 54-ball 71 to post 155/6 in 20 overs. Skipper Meg Lanning and Ashleigh Gardner also played a valuable knock of 26-run each.

For India, Deepti Sharma (2/30) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/32) claimed two wickets each while Shikha Pandey (0/27) also bowled economically in her stipulated four overs.

In reply, the Women in Blue fell 11-run short of the target. Except for opener Smriti Mandhana (66 off 37 balls), none of the Indian batters managed to cross the 20-run mark.

Jess Jonassen was the stand-out bowler for Australia, claiming 5 wickets for 12 runs in her four overs. Tayla Vlaeminck (2/32) also chipped with a couple of scalps.

Brief Scores:

Australia Women – 155/6 in 20 overs (Beth Mooney 71; Deepti Sharma 2/30) defeated India Women – 144/10 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana 66; Jess Jonassen 5/12) by 11 runs.
