New Zealand’s Sophie Devine on Sunday (November 10) took the cricketing fraternity by storm as she smashed five consecutive sixes in a WBBL match.
Playing for Adelaide Strikers against Melbourne Stars at Karen Rolton Oval, Devine wreaked havoc on Madeline Penna in the final over her team’s innings.
The opener peppered the leg-side boundary, smashing the ball from long on to deep midwicket region. She got the strike on the second delivery after Katie Mack took a single and thus missed an opportunity to achieve the rare feat of hitting 6 sixes in an over.
Here’s the video:
Coming to the match, Strikers rode on Sophie Devine’s unbeaten 56-ball 85 (6 fours and 5 sixes) to post 164/4 in 20 overs.
In reply, Stars could only manage 147/8 with the middle-order crumbling pressure. Except for Mignon du Preez (70) and Lizelle Leec (52), none of the Melbourne batswomen reached the double-digit mark. Amanda Wellington (3/31), Suzie Bates (2/17) and Sophie Devine (2/19) were the stars with the ball for Adelaide Strikers.
For her stellar all-round performance, Sophie was awarded Player-of-the-Match.
