West Indies beat India by just one run.

Stafanie Taylor made 94

The first WODI between India women and West Indies women proved to be a nail biter which was eventually won by the home side West Indies by just one run. Apart from this enthralling finish, the match will be remembered for a moment of brilliance from Harmanpreet Kaur.

Kaur, one of the most aggressive batswomen in today’s times, is also a brilliant fielder anywhere in the field. West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor needed 6 runs to complete her ton on the last ball of the Windies team innings. She tried to clear the delivery from Ekta Bisht over the long-on boundary.

However, Harmanpreet had other ideas as he timed her jump to perfection and caught the ball with her wrong hand. Taylor couldn’t believe her luck as she thought the ball would sail over the ropes but Harmanpreet did the unthinkable and caught the ball mid-air to stop her short in her path.

Here is the video of the catch:

West Indies women batted first and apart from Taylor’s 94, Natasha McLean made 51 and Cheaden Nation’s 43 and helped the team reach 225/7 in 50 overs. Shikha Pandey (2/38) and Deepti Sharma (2/41) were the pick of bowlers from the Indian side.

Priya Punia made 75 for India | TwitterIn reply, Priya Punia made 75 in 107 balls, while Rodrigues made 41 and Raut and Raj made scores in the 20s each. Then Anisa Mohammed picked 5/46 and India lost their last eight wickets for 54 runs and were edged out. Mohammed picked a wicket off the last ball to bowl out India and win the match by 1 run. Stafanie Taylor was named the Player of the Match.
