Australia women's team recorded its 18th consecutive ODI win after whitewashing Sri Lanka 3-0 with a nine-wicket victory in the final game of the series in Brisbane on Tuesday (October 8).

The side went past its own previous record of 17 consecutive ODI wins between 1997 and 1999.

Australia also confirmed itself a top-slot finish in the Women's ODI Championship with 34 points; well above second-placed England.

On the day, the Lankans batted first and managed a total of only 195/8 in their allotted 50 overs with the bat. Chamari Athapaththu did her reputation no harm with a fantastic century (103 off 124 balls) but the rest of the batting line-up collapsed very badly against quality bowling.

Megan Schutt (2/44), Georgia Wareham (2/18), Nicola Carey (1/28) and Ellyse Perry (1/26) delivered fine spells for the hosts, who simply ran away with the game in a run-chase that lasted only 26.5 overs.

Rachael Haynes (63) stitched together a 159-run opening stand with Alyssa Healy (112*), who raced her way to a wonderful hundred. Captain Meg Lanning (20*) batted nicely as well and remained unbeaten at the end. Chamari Athapaththu (1/32) was the sole wicket-taker for the visitors.

The Aussies were just too good for their Lankan counterparts on the tour; whitewashing them 3-0 in both the T20Is and ODIs down under.

Brief scores:

Sri Lanka Women 195/8 in 50 overs (Chamari Athapaththu 103; Megan Schutt 2/44) lost to Australia Women 196/1 in 26.5 overs (Alyssa Healy 112; Chamari Athapaththu 1/32) by nine wickets.
