South African Women’s Team will be touring India to play 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs from 24 September to 14 October. Today, BCCI announced the schedule as well as the Indian Women’s squads for both the series.
The entire series will be played in the state of Gujarat. The first leg will include 5 T20Is in Surat which will be played under lights. The five matches will be played on 24, 26, 29 September and 1 and 4 October.
The series will then move on to the ODI leg which will be played in Vadodara. These will be day games. The three matches will be played on 9, 11 and 14 October.
Stalwart Mithali Raj announced her retirement from T20Is just a few days ago. Thus, the oldest member of the squad has paved way for the youngest member, 15-year-old Shafali Verma, in the T20I squad. The squad for only the first 3 matches has been announced. Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading the team while opener Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain.
Raj will still be the captain of the ODI team and the vice-captaincy duties will be looked at by Harmanpreet. Taniya Bhatia has been picked as the wicket-keeper in both formats.
