WI v IND 2019: Virender Sehwag's crucial advice for Rishabh Pant to come good in white-ball cricket

Rishabh Pant struggled throughout the white-ball series in West Indies.

Young Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant failed to produce with the bat in the limited-overs campaign in West Indies and Virender Sehwag suggested the left-hander to work on his shot selection to perform well in the white-ball game.

In the three-match T20I series and as many as One Day Internationals, Pant managed to score only 20 runs in ODIs and went for a duck in the first T20I,  4 in 2nd match, though, the Delhi lad found his form in the final match where he scored 65 not out.

Sehwag told ANI, “Pant has played well in the Test matches. He has to settle himself in the limited-overs game. He has to work on his shot-selection and then he will serve the country for long.”

The 21-year-old is the only Indian wicket-keeper batsman who has scored a Test century in Australia and England.

Meanwhile, India has tested a lot of batsmen for the No. 4 slot, and it seems that their search for number four batsman has ended on Pant, as he was played at the position in the recent T20I and ODI series against West Indies, but Sehwag feels they should also test experienced MS Dhoni for the role.

He continued, “In recent times, there are many players like Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, and Manish Pandey who are tested for the number four position. According to me, experienced MS Dhoni will also be tested for the number four spot.”

The legendary batsman was also asked to pick one from Ajinkye Rahane and Rohit Sharma for the West Indies Tests and Sehwag said: “My first choice will be Rahane. If you ask between Rohit and Hanuma Vihari, then I will pick Rohit first.”

He also congratulated Ravi Shastri for being appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team for the second time.

Sehwag signed off by saying, “I wish Shashtri all the best for his second tenure. Although we lost the semi-final in the World Cup, I hope the team will do better in the T20 World Cup under his guidance.”
