Chris Gayle might not have officially announced his retirement from ODI cricket, but it seems the Caribbean swashbuckler played his last 50-over game against India at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday (August 14).

Walking out to bat by donning a special jersey “301” to mark the occasion of his 301st ODI, Gayle along with Evin Lewis got West Indies off to a flying start. In particular, the Universe Boss was severe on the Indian bowlers as he brought up his half-century in just 30 deliveries.

The duo of Gayle and Lewis stitched 115 runs for the opening wicket in just 10.5 overs. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal drew the first blood for India by removing Lewis for 43 off 29 balls. In the very next over, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed got rid of Gayle but not before the southpaw dented the visitors with his breathtaking 72 off 41 deliveries, including 8 fours and 5 sixes.

As soon as Gayle was dismissed, all the Indian players ran towards him and congratulated the Jamaican batting giant. Visiting skipper Virat Kohli also did a quick jig in typical style with his former RCB teammate.

Coming to the match, West Indies were placed at 158/2 in 22 overs before the rain stopped play in the third and final ODI. Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope were unbeaten at the crease on 18 and 19 respectively.
