Young Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer made the most of the opportunity in the second One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series in West Indies and hogged the limelight with his incredible innings at the Port of Spain on Sunday, 11th August.

The Mumbai batsman was applauded by many cricket greats including Sunil Gavaskar, for his brilliant innings, as his knock of 68-ball 71, as well as, 125 runs partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Virat Kohli (120) helped India to pull out a 59-run win over the West Indies in the second ODI.

The right-hander joined Kohli in the middle when India were in trouble after losing 3 wickets for just 109 runs, and he further went on to notch up his third ODI fifty at a tricky turf, as well as, stitched a match-winning partnership with his captain to bring India out of trouble to take 1-0 lead in the series.

Now, Sanjay Manjrekar and Jonty Rhodes have joined the bandwagon to laud Iyer for his efforts with the bat against the West Indies with many believing the youngster can sort out India’s middle-order conundrum.

While Manjrekar hailed Iyer’s technique of relying more on singles and doubles, as the 24-year-old’s 71 runs were mainly scored through singles and twos, the legendary South African believes that Kohli made the job easy for the young batsman to shine with the bat on Sunday.
