India skipper Virat Kohli was left very disappointed following a rain-abandoned draw in the first ODI against West Indies at Guyana on Thursday (August 8).

The game had a delayed start before further rains prompted reduction of overs from 50 to 43 and then 34. But only 13 overs of play was possible as the heavy showers came back, leaving the match officials with no option but to call off the game in the end.

Then at the post-match presentation ceremony, a dejected Virat said that a rain-affected game is perhaps the worst part of our sport.

"It’s probably the worst part of cricket, a stop-start is never a good feeling. Either it should rain out or play the full game. The more stops you have, the more you want to be careful to ensure that the players don’t injure themselves," he said.

The captain then gave a hint of how he would like India to approach the rest of the series, with the next two games scheduled in Trinidad on August 11 and 14 respectively.

"Cricket has come a long, long way. England, for example, have done really well with their turnaround. Scores of 400 are being scored regularly now. The game is moving fast because of the T20 influence into the games, and it is only to go higher and higher as we go ahead."

"The guys are fitter, sharper now and all teams will have to keep up with that. A few of the pitches in the Caribbean can really test you. Some pitches might have good pace and bounce but some of them will be on the slower side and you need to be patient."

"The team that adapts well and plays better percentage cricket will benefit. Both teams will look to do that in the coming days," he added.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0/11), Mohammad Shami (0/5), Kuldeep (1/3) delivered fine short spells.

West Indies scored 54/1, with Evin Lewis making an unbeaten 40*, besides Chris Gayle (4) and Shai Hope (6*).
