The highly-anticipated selection meeting for the upcoming West Indies tour took place in Mumbai on Sunday (July 21) and the squad for all three formats was announced as well.

Amid a lot of buzz, chief selector MSK Prasad revealed the multiple squads and said that Virat Kohli will lead the team across all formats during the Caribbean tour. While all-rounder Hardik Pandya and speedster Jasprit Bumrah have been rested, veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has chosen to spend time with his army regiment.

In the absence of Dhoni, Rishabh Pant has been named as first-choice wicketkeeper for all three formats with Wriddhiman Saha being his backup in the Test squad. KL Rahul has also found his name in the squad sheet while teenager Shubman Gill missed the bus.

Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have earned call-ups to the limited-overs squad whereas Mayank Agarwal and Hanumana Vihari have been retained in the Test side. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan has returned to the white-ball team after recovering from thumb fracture. All-rounder Vijay Shankar and opener Prithvi Shaw were not considered for seduction due to their sustained injuries.

Like always, the Twitterverse was buzzing on the day of India’s team selection with cricket experts sharing their thoughts.
