After a sad exit from the recently concluded World Cup, Team India is scheduled to tour the West Indies for 3 T20s, 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches. The panel of selectors lead by MSK Prasad met in Mumbai and announced the squads for the tour on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Rahul Chahar’s name was the only surprise in the Indian T20 squad. Chahar had a wonderful season for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) where the team defeated Chennai Super Kings to win their 4th IPL title.

He picked 13 wickets in 13 matches this year at an impressive average of 23.69 with an economy of 6.55 and was the first-choice spinner for the Mumbai based franchise ahead of the 21-year-old leg-spinner Mayank Markande who took 15 wickets in 14 matches last year.

Rahul will join his cousin Deepak Chahar in the Indian T20I squad. Deepak and Rahul Chahar played together in Agra before moving out to pursue cricket professionally. Three pairs of brothers have represented India in international cricket previously - Mohinder and Surinder Amarnath, Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Hardik and Krunal Pandya.

The right-arm leg spinner from Rajasthan has 63 wickets to his name in 14 first-class games with six five-wicket hauls at an average of 26.44. Along with these he has taken 42 scalps in 24 List-A games with one five-wicket haul at a decent average of 24.52.

Deepak on the other hand had an amazing IPL as he was the key wicket taking option for MS Dhoni as he took 22 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 21.90. It will be interesting to see how these brothers perform together in the upcoming T20 series in the Caribbean.

Indian Squad for the 3 T20Is: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (WK), Krunal Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini.
