U19CWC 2020: "Want to stick to my process", Jaiswal looks at life ahead after prolific World Cup

The left-handed India opener scored 400 runs from six innings in the youth World Cup.

Yashasvi Jaiswal | GettyIndia U-19 opener Yashasvi Jaiswal says he learnt a great deal of batting in South Africa throughout the junior World Cup that concluded on Sunday (February 9) with his team disappointingly going down to neighbours Bangladesh in the final.

Yashasvi was India's stand-out batsman in the showpiece event; scoring 400 runs at an astonishing average of 133.33 in six innings, including four half-centuries and a hundred in the semi-final against arch-rivals Pakistan.

The 18-year-old was deservingly awarded "Player-of-the-Tournament" for his prolific run.

"I really enjoyed the tournament, I had a good experience here in South Africa, how to play on these wickets. I really enjoyed it. I needed to play my game, that was it," said Yashasvi at the post-game presentation ceremony.

"I keep thinking about what I need to play next, and I just worry about my process. I will do what I did last time, and I want to stick to that."

Yashasvi, who has had a well-documented journey of struggle reaching this far, will now go back to the domestic scene playing for Mumbai.

Before this tournament, the left-hand batsman enjoyed a great run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, country's premier domestic List A tournament; scoring 564 runs at an average of 112.80 with three hundreds, including a rare double ton.

Yashasvi, having made his first-class debut, will also be looking to cement his position in the Mumbai Ranji team.

There is also the IPL stint with Rajasthan Royals to look forward to for the southpaw after being picked at the auction by one-time champion franchise in December.
