In the world of cricket, ace Indian opener Rohit Sharma has been a source of an inspiration for the youngsters across the world being one of the best batsmen and Pakistan U-19 Batsman Haider Ali is one of those who hailed the hitman as his role model recently.

Haider, who is currently playing for Pakistan in the U19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa, revealed that he wants to emulate India’s batting maestro and hit a double century in the limited-overs.

Fakhar Zaman is the only Pakistan batsman who hit a double hundred in ODIs (210*) against Zimbabwe in 2018 and now this young gun wants to join his senior countryman in the elite list.

Acknowledging Rohit to be his “role model”, the young opening batsman said the right-hander is a brave batter and he wants to emulate his style of batting to contribute as much as possible in his team’s success like his idol doing for Team India.

Speaking to Geo.tv from South Africa, Ali said: “My role model is Rohit Sharma, I want to be a batsman like him. He bats so bravely and confidently, I want to emulate his style of batting. Of course, scoring a double century in one day cricket is my dream. My aim is to score as big as possible. As an opener, I try to score big so that the team can get a solid start.”

He made his first-class debut last year and went on to score 654 runs in 13 innings for Northern, and the opener said: “I scored 99 on my debut, then scored a century in the final of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and that performance boosted my confidence. I was aiming to score around 800 runs in the season and I was almost near to my target as I played just seven games.”

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old batsman said he is currently focusing on giving his best for Pakistan in the World Cup 2020, as they are gearing up to take on Afghanistan in the super league quarterfinal on Friday to book a berth for semi-Final against India on February 4.

Haider signed off by saying, “We have got ample time to prepare for the knock-out match. I am confident that we'll continue our march in the tournament. The tournament provides us a great opportunity to show our skills and cement a place in Pakistan squad.

I am looking forward to getting the maximum advantage [from] this platform of U19 cricket, prove myself, and get selected for Pakistan team.”
