Taniya Bhatia believes that the Indian women’s cricket team should continue keeping their momentum in order to get to the finals of the T20 World Cup 2020.

The ‘Women In Blue’ beat the tournament hosts in the opening encounter and followed it up by a win over Bangladesh. They also beat the Kiwis in a nail-biting thriller and became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals with 6 points under their belt and a match to go.

Wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia said, “We’re in a really positive position. We’ve been playing well ever since the tri-series. I think we’ve got a lot better as a team in working out how to handle and read situations well. The results are in our favour, but we need to keep up the momentum. If we do that, we will do well and hopefully reach the finals.

The onus of batting has remained on the shoulders of young Shafali Verma and her opening partner Smriti Mandhana as the middle order had petty returns even before the tournament. Verma has taken her performances to the next level in this tournament scoring 114 runs in 3 games at a strike rate of a whopping 172.73.

Bhatia said, “We’re playing well, it’s just one or two odd games where our batters failed to perform, but I think Shafali is giving us a good start and the rest of us batters will take up responsibility.

Bhatia opened the batting along with Verma in the second game and came in at No. 3 in the third game. She played a valuable knock of 23 runs against New Zealand and shared a half-century partnership with Verma. She is ready to bat at any position according to the requirements of the team.

I’m ready to bat wherever the team wants me to bat. I can bat well up the order and I know I’m capable of scoring runs there,” she said.
