The 10th match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia saw the home side take on Bangladesh at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat first.
It was a superlative performance by their openers as Beth Mooney (81* in 58 balls with 9 fours) and Alyssa Healy (83 in 53 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes) added a humongous 151 runs for the first wicket. Amy Gardner contributed a 9-ball 22* with 3 fours and 1 six, as Australia registered 189/1 in 20 overs. Salma Khatun was the only wicket-taker for Bangladesh.
In reply, Bangladesh’s top-order fared exactly opposite to their rivals. Megan Schutt picked 3/21 in her four overs, as Bangladeshi batswomen crumbled like nine pins. Only Fargana Hoque (36) fared well, while Shamima Sultana, Nigar Sultana, and Rumana Ahmed made it into double digits.
In the end, Australia managed to keep Bangladesh to just 103/9 and won the match by 86 runs.
AUS 189/1 (A HEALY 83, B MOONEY 81*) defeated BAN 103/9 (F HOQUE 36; M SCHUTT 3/21) by 86 runs
