Women's T20WC 2020: Australia finishes off South Africa in style; Sri Lanka stuns England in warm-up games

The tournament will get underway on Friday in Sydney.

Australian Women finished off their preparations for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 Cricket World Cup 2020 on a winning note, thrashing South Africa Women by 4 wickets in the final warm-up match in Adelaide on Tuesday (February 18).

Playing their last game before starting their T20 Cricket World Cup title defense against India on Friday (February 21) in Sydney, Australian Women’s cricket team has shown the world why they are champions, as skipper Meg Lanning (47) and deputy Rachael Haynes (39) take them to a four-wicket victory with three balls to spare over the Proteas eves.

The hosts had great preparations for the mega event has already beaten India and England to win the T20I Tri-series at home and Lanning said the four-time World Cup winners are raring to go into the tournament at home.

She said after the warm-up game, “We're as ready as we can be. Now it's just about going out there and putting it on the park.”

Meanwhile, England suffered a massive defeat of a 10-wicket at the hands of Sri Lanka Women in their final appearance before the T20 World Cup 2020.

With Sri Lanka's spinners inflicting the damage, Heather Knight’s side could manage only 122 for 9 – which the Islanders' eves chased down the total without a loss inside 13 overs on the back of captain Chamari Atapattu’s 78 off 50 balls and fellow opener Hasini Perera’s 29* on Tuesday.

Heather Knight said, “It was a disappointing performance, but I'd rather we got it out of the way ahead of the World Cup. We're still in a good place.”

Noteworthy, Sri Lanka Women will play New Zealand Women in their tournament opener on February 22 while England Women will face South Africa Women in Perth on February 23.
