Gautam Gambhir hails Deepak Chahar for his feat; calls him asset for T20 World Cup 2020

Chahar registered the best ever T20I bowling figures of 6/7 including a hat-trick.

Deepak Chahar | AFPFormer India captain Gautam Gambhir was all praises for Rajasthan’s Deepak Chahar who created history with his world record T20I bowling figures of 6/7 in the third and deciding match against Bangladesh in Nagpur recently.

Chahar’s best-ever bowling figures also contained a hat-trick, making him the first Indian bowler from men’s team to achieve the feat in the format and sealed a brilliant win for the Men in Blue, who also pocketed the series 2-1 under stand-in captain Rohit Sharma.

Gambhir praised the young fast bowler and called him an asset for the team in the preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. "I am very happy for him. He is a young boy and has been doing very well since the time he has busted on the international scene and the most important thing is that he has led the attack very well with not much experience. I wish him all the best. He has the ability and he can be a good asset for India going forward. He can swing the ball & he can bat and he is a brilliant fielder. So I am really happy for him and I hope that he grows on the future as well," Gambhir told Republic TV.

Gambhir also opined on the potential of Chahar becoming the biggest weapon for India pace bowling attack going forward. The BJP MP from East Delhi said, "It will be too early to say that he is among the best for India for T20 World Cup which is far ahead. And when you get the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar back I am sure it will be difficult but then he is doing all the right things and if he keeps doing it he will be right there for the T20 World Cup. But he should not be thinking about what he should be thinking about every game he is playing for the country."

Meanwhile, Chahar was named the Man of the Match and Man of the Series for his superlative performances against Bangladesh at home.
