ICC T20 WCQ 2019: Richie Berrington, Safyaan Sharif power Scotland to 31-run victory over Kenya

Scotland and Kenya faced each other in the 8th Group A encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 in Dubai on Saturday (October 19).

Opting to bat first, Scotland posted a highly competitive 170/6 in 20 overs with contributions from Tom Sole (33* off 18 balls), Calum MacLeod (30 off 27 balls), Richie Berrington (27 off 23 balls), Matthew Cross (24 off 14 balls) and George Munsey (23 off 15 balls). Ollie Hairs also played a notable cameo of 17 in just 9 deliveries.

Collins Obuya was the pick of the bowlers for Kenya, taking 2 for 12 in his 3 overs. Lucas Oluoch chipped in with a couple of wickets too by conceding 32 runs in his stipulated 4 overs.

Chasing the target, Kenya were in a decent position after 12 overs with Irfan Karim scoring 46-ball 51 at the top. However, in a bid to catch the required run-rate, they kept losing wickets and slipped from 90/1 to 124/6.

Richie Berrington (3/17) and Safyaan Sharif (2/28) ran through Kenya’s middle-order to change the course of the match. Josh Davey also finished with 2 for 25 in his 4 overs as Scotland eventually restricted Kenya to 139/8, securing a comprehensive 31-run victory.
