Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera in doubt for T20 World Cup 2021 after suffering hamstring injury

Perera was seen struggling with his hamstring during the third T20I against South Africa.

Kusal Perera | GettySri Lanka left-hand batsman-keeper Kusal Perera is doubtful for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 owing to a hamstring injury he sustained during the third T20I against South Africa.

Perera was seen struggling with his hamstring while running between the wickets during his innings.

The injury is a sprinter's injury, which can be picked up while running between the wickets. Because of the nature of the injury, we can't do a fast rehabilitation, ESPNcricinfo quoted Sri Lanka team physician Dr. Daminda Attanayake as saying.

If it turns out Perera is unavailable for the World Cup, Sri Lanka will be without perhaps their best T20 batter. He has 1416 runs at a strike rate of 132.21 in the format.

India's tour of New Zealand postponed until next year, to take place after 2022 T20 World Cup

Another player to injure himself was all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka, who has been ruled out of the ICC event after suffering a fracture to his collarbone while fielding in the same match. He hurt himself while making a diving stop in the outfield.

He landed hard on his left shoulder and was seen reaching for it in discomfort immediately. Sri Lanka will be required to name a replacement for him in the World Cup squad.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Sunday had announced their 15-member squad for ICC mega event to be held in UAE and Oman.

With Dasun Shanaka appointed as the captain of this side, the island nation will begin their campaign on October 18 against Namibia in Abu Dhabi in Group A.

Sri Lanka Squad:

Dasun Shanaka (c), Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Janith Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne, Nuwan Pradeep, Dushmantha Chameera, Praveen Jayawickrema, Lahiru Madushanka, Maheesh Theekshana.
