Papua New Guinea on Sunday (October 20) clinched a comprehensive victory over Namibia by 81 runs in a Group A match in Dubai in the T20 World Cup qualifier 2019.

PNG won the toss and opted to bat first as openers Tony Ura (71) and captain Assad Vala (48) continued their magnificent form, and middle-order batsmen Lega Siaka (22) and Sese Bau (26) chipped with cameos as their team posted a mammoth 197/7 in 20 overs.

Jan Frylinck (3/18), Christi Viljoen (2/37) and Bernard Scholtz (1/23) got the breakthroughs for Nambiba but yet the team couldn't stop the run flow.

In the run-chase, however, it all fell apart for Namibia whose batting line-up collapsed demoralizingly under pressure with no one even reaching the 20-run mark. PNG skipper Assad had a field outing with the ball also, taking three wickets for just 19 runs, while the rest of the bowling unit contributed with breakthroughs as well and got the opponent all out for only 116 runs in 17.1 overs.

Brief scores:
Papua New Guinea 197/7 in 20 overs (Tony Ura 71; Jan Frylinck 3/18) defeated Namibia 116/10 in 17.1 overs (Christi Viljoen 17; Assad Vala 3/19) by 81 runs.

In another encounter of the tournament on Sunday (October 20), Canada thrashed Jersey by 53 runs in Group B in Abu Dhabi.

Jersey won the toss and opted to bowl first. The team, however, saw Canada race its way to a very strong total of 176/5 in 20 overs with Nitish Kumar hammering bowlers to all parks in an innings of 36-ball 83. Charles Perchard (2/21) bowled well but the rest of the bowling unit struggled to counter the onslaught.

A similar theme followed in the run-chase for Jersey when Canada bowlers Jeremy Gordon (3/14) and Dillon Heyliger (3/20) routed them.

The team got bundled out for just 123 in 17 overs, with only Jonty Jenner (56) providing some fight with the bat via a quickfire half-century.

Brief scores:
Canada 176/5 in 20 overs (Nitish Kumar 83; Charles Perchard 2/21) beat Jersey 123/10 in 17 overs (Jonty Jenner 56; Jeremy Gordon 3/14) by 53 runs.
