India defeated South Africa in the first T20I match at Johannesburg by 28 runs and took a lead of 1-0 in the three match series.

India batted first and scored 203 runs for loss of 5 wickets thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s 72 off 39 balls. India took the South African bowlers on and scored 108/3 in inside 10 overs. The New Wanderers Stadium is notorious for teams chasing totals of over 170 easily and even a total of 230 was chased down successfully.

India needed its bowlers to perform at the top of their skills and Bhuvneshwar Kumar rose to the occasion with career best figures of 5/24. Despite Reeza Hendricks’ innings of 70; Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s five wicket haul proved to be the deciding factor in the match. He became the first Indian pacer to take five wickets in a T20I match and only India bowler to take five wicket hauls in all the three international formats.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Man of the match for his performance and was later interviewed by bcci.tv and was asked to sum up the Indian win in 90 seconds.
