South African speedster, Kagiso Rabada has been fined 15 percent of the match fees after the breached the ICC Code of Conduct in the fifth ODI at Port Elizabeth. Additionally, he was also handed one demerit point for conduct during fifth ODI against India.

South Africa eventually lost the match by 73 runs and the series in the process. India, therefore, won their first ODI series on the Protean soil in 25 years. 

The South African fast bowler now has five demerit points on his disciplinary record after receiving three demerit points against Sri Lanka in a One-Day International on 8 February 2017 and one demerit point during the Lord’s Test against England on 7 July 2017.

The recent incident happened in the eighth over of the Indian innings when after dismissing Shikhar Dhawan, Rabada waved him a good by and also exchanged words which has come under the scanner of ICC. This action from Rabada might have forced the apex cricket body to bring him under notice. Dhawan on his part did not react to the send-off from Rabada. 

He was charged under ICC rule in article 2.1.7 which states  “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

Rabada after the match accepted his grievance in an official meeting with Match referee Andy Pycroft. If Rabada reaches the next threshold of eight or more demerit points within a 24-month period, he will be suspended either one or two Test matches or two to four T20I or ODI matches depending on which comes first on the calendar.
