Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly congratulated Team India who under Virat Kohli has won the ODI series. This is their first series win in 25 years on the Protean soil.
The series was all about seeing Team India go forward from strength to strength. Kohli notched up two ODI centuries, followed by Shikhar Dhawan who scored a ton in his 100th ODI. Finally, Rohit Sharma who looked off color for the most part of the series also came good and scored his 17th ODI ton at Port Elizabeth. Doing this he has put all the controversy circling around his lack of form.
In the bowling department, it was the Indian spin twin who hogged the limelight throughout the series. Kuldeep and Chahal took 30 wickets in total throughout the series so far with one match to go. The pacers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were consistent throughout the series barring the fourth ODI which India lost in Johannesburg.
At the start of the tournament, reports said that India needed to win 4-2 to topple South Africa to become the number one ODI team. The series now stands at 4-1 which means Team India have attained their target and will look to complete a 5-1 series win in the final ODI in Centurion.
Here is how two former Indian greats congratulated the Indian team on their recent success.
