India and South Africa will meet each other in the second ODI of the six match series at the SuperSport Park, Centurion.

India leads the series 1-0 up as Virat Kohli century, Ajinkya Rahane’s fifty and the 5 wickets shared by the spin twins defeated the Proteas by 6 wickets. South Africa chose to bat first and struggled to find momentum throughout the innings. Only captain Faf du Plessis managed to break the stranglehold and scored a brilliant century. However, chase Master King Kohli one upped Du Plessis with his sublime century to take India to the win easily.

Now moving into the second game, South Africa have lots of problems on their hands as Faf du Plessis was ruled out of the remainder of the ODI and T20I series due to a fractured finger, and they are already missing the brilliant AB de Villiers, who hurt his finger in the final Test against India.

Centurion has seen a brilliant Test between these two teams and the pitch will also provide a good ODI match as well. The match will be special for Aiden Markram, as he was announced as the new captain of South African team for the remainder of the ODI series and will lead South Africa in the upcoming T20I series.

This proved that CSA is really serious about their ‘vision 2019’, as they trusted the captaincy to Markram, who has been in international cricket for around six months.

In the Indian camp, captain Kohli is faced with the happy problem of too many choices. The Indian team management will not be tempted to tinker with the playing XI much, given that they are looking to secure the ODI series first, before experimenting in the series. Rahane proved that given a long run, he might be the actual answer to India’s no.4 conundrum.

It will be interesting to see how Markram tackles the problem of a dominant Indian ODI team, which is looking good for their first series win over South Africa in South Africa.
