There were plenty of hopes from the Virat Kohli led Indian Test team as they embarked on their tour to South Africa after winning 9 consecutive Test series. However, the current world No. 1 Test team couldn’t quite prove their mettle in the alien overseas conditions as they conceded an unassailable 2-0 lead to the Proteas.

After conceding the first Test by 72 runs in Cape Town, it was expected that Virat Kohli and company will bounce back in the second Test. Despite getting a subcontinent-like pitch at SuperSport Park in Centurion, Indian batsmen couldn’t able to adjust their game as the visitors got bundled out for 307 and 151 in their two innings respectively and consequently the all-important second Test by 135 runs.

After such a miserable show, the backlash from the fans and media was pretty much given. Amidst all the criticism though, out of favour India opener Gautam Gambhir has come out in support of the team and urged the Indian fans to stand by the team in this difficult phase.

Talking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Gauti wrote: “Its time to show support for Indian team and not being over-the-top critical. This was the team that had such a fabulous run, two games don’t make them bad. Rather than being severe on our boys, let’s just give credit to d opposition @BCCI. Simple: Well played @OfficialCSA”.

Team India now have to play for pride in the third Test against South Africa at Johannesburg, scheduled to start from January 24.
