SA vs IND 2018: Critical Virat Kohli fan dies after fatal suicide attempt

A diehard fan of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, on Friday, tried to commit suicide after the right-hander got out cheaply after making just five runs in the first innings of the Cape Town Test, which won by 72-runs by South Africa, died on Tuesday.

He was a retired railway officer from Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, taking the step after upsetting with Kohli’s poor form in the rainbow nation. The police confirmed to Hindustan Times that the incident took place in Ratlam’s Ambedkar Nagar under the jurisdiction of the station road police station.

Ram Singh, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at station road police station Ratlam said, “Bariya told us that when Kohli got out ‘uska dimag satak gaya’ (he was very upset). He took a bottle of kerosene nearby and poured it on his head and set himself ablaze.”

The officer further went to reveal that Babulal used to drink and it was likely that he was in drunken condition while watching India-South Africa match on Friday.

Mr. Singh further said, “When family members came to know what he had done after he started shouting, they immediately rushed him to the district hospital for treatment. He had received burn injuries on his face, head, and hands. He had received around 60 % burn injuries.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Anand Chandelkar, a civil surgeon at district government hospital Ratlam, confirmed that they handed over Babulal Bariya’s body to his family members after his post-mortem. He concluded by saying, “If a person is elderly, he or she can die even with fewer burn injuries.”
