Series sweep over India will put South Africa at the top along with India with the same rating points.

The outcome of India’s Test tour to South Africa will not have any effect on the visitors Test rankings as they will continue to remain as the numero uno team in the longest format of cricket. However, Proteas might join India at the top if they manage to clinch the series 3-nil.

Currently, the Virat Kohli led Indian Test team are comfortably placed at the top with 124 rating points while South Africa are at the second spot with 111 points in their kitty.

As per the statement released by ICC on Wednesday (January 3), both the teams will tie on 118 points if South Africa end the series with a clean sweep.

Even if such scenario arises, India will be ranked above South Africa on the basis of decimal points. While Virat Kohli’s troops will have 118.47 points in that case, the Proteas will be on 117.53.

On the contrary, if the world No. 1 Test team win all the three Tests of the series then they will accumulate 4 more rating points while South Africa will slip to 107 points.

On the other hand, Australia are certain to be the No. 3 ranked Test team as they have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead over England in the ongoing Ashes series. However, England will have to win the fifth and final Test in Sydney to avoid finishing in fifth spot.

If Australia secure the Ashes series 4-0, they will finish third on 104 points in ICC Test rankings and England will end on fifth with 99 points. However, 1-3 series loss for Joe Root’s side will mean that they will finish on fourth with 101 points while the Aussies will finish third on 102 points.
