SA v IND 2018: South Africa names squad for first Test v India; Steyn returns, Du Plessis to lead

Dale Steyn is back in South African squad for 1st Test against India

The South Africa-India three Test series will surely prove to be one of the best series to start the new year of 2018.

The first Test between the two teams will start on January 5, 2018 and will be played in Newlands, Cape Town. Team India just arrived in Cape Town for the series opener, along with newlyweds Virat Kohli and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

South Africa on the other hand has announced their 15 man squad for the first Test in Cape Town.

The squad includes Dale Steyn, who has missed over a year of Test cricket and recently, played in the historic four-day Test against Zimbabwe. Chris Morris, Vernon Philander and Andile Phehlukwayo were the all-rounders in the squad with Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada will be the pacers for the team.

Hashim Amla

Quinton de Kock is named in the squad despite an injury scare during the Zimbabwe Test and so is Faf du Plessis, who missed the Zimbabwe Test due to a sore back. Theunis de Bruyn, Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar will compete for the opener’s slots, while AB de Villiers, Temba Bavuma and Hashim Amla will make up the middle order.

Keshav Maharaj is the lone spinner named in the squad by Cricket South Africa.
