In a series marred by controversies, the cricketing action, at times the brilliance, has been overshadowed in ongoing South Africa versus Australia marquee test series.

Ex-South African captain and the commentator for the series Graeme Smith, though has been keeping a close eye on the on-field(cricketing) proceedings. Smith has come out and expressed his views regarding the big turning point of the series, which after the first test was led by Australia 1-0 and in which now South Africa is ahead 2-1 & on their way to 3-1. Smith believes it was the glittering knock of AB Devillers in the second test at Port Elizabeth that changed the momentum of the series.

An absolute masterclass by De Villiers and one of test cricket's best recent knock turned the corner for South Africa. It was his 126 not out took the life out of Australia. In the same test, Kagiso Rabada got 11 wickets too. Their efforts ensured South Africa levels the series at St. George's Park and the team hasn't looked back since then.
Smith was quoted by the Cricket Australia website cricket.com.au, "I think there was a moment in that second Test match where de Villiers's hundred turned everything for the South Africans," 

"It got them a lead and then Rabada stepped up."He further added.

Smith was also very vocal about Australia's batting struggles. Australia has had no hundred runs partnership in the series, this is only the fifth such occasion in Test cricket for the Aussies.

"If you break the series down, I think in particular, (South Africa) have batted much better than the Australians throughout the series.The top run-getters are South African and the only guy in the top five is Bancroft from an Australian perspective."

"That's been a big difference. I said before the series, whoever scores the most runs with these two attacks will ultimately end up winning the series and that's what's going to happen."

"Not one hundred from an Australian on tour and I think that's telling" concluded the former South African captain.
