West Indies’ swashbuckling opening batsman Chris Gayle on Thursday (March 29) expressed his views on the infamous ball-tampering scandal that rocked the entire cricketing fraternity during the recently concluded Test match between Australia and South Africa in Cape Town.

Gayle stated that it’s not his business to comment on this matter but the one-year ban imposed by Cricket Australia is a bit harsh on the convicted players.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Gayle wrote: “Oi Oi Oi! It’s not my business but it’s done and dusted! I think 1 year is hars!"

Fondly known as the Universe Boss for his ball-striking ability, Gayle further went on to say that the trio of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will have to live with this guilt till their last breath. The Jamaica-based cricketer also invited them to come at his place.

“But to the 3 youngsters, y’all gonna have to live with this - reflect quickly and know there’s a lot of life ahead so don’t stop here! Feel free to come see me in Jamaica ???????? anytime! #JustSaying” he added.

Cricket Australia on Wednesday (March 28) announced a severe punishment on Smith, Warner and Bancroft for their involvement in the ball-tampering controversy. CA banned skipper Smith and vice-captain Warner for 12 months, while rookie opener Bancroft was handed a 9-month suspension from international cricket.

In its statement, Cricket Australia had also mentioned that each player will have to complete 100 hours of community service before being considered for future selection. While Smith and Bancroft will have to wait two years before they are considered for leadership roles, Warner will never again be considered for captaincy as he was found to be the instigator of the plan.

Just a day after the scandal, Smith was handed a one-match suspension and fined 100% of his match fee by the ICC while Bancroft was penalized 75 percent of his match fee and awarded three demerit points for breaching Level 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
