SA v AUS 2018: Kagiso Rabada strengthens his ranking as No. 1 Test bowler

Proteas speedster Kagiso Rabada has regained the top spot among bowlers in ICC’s latest released Test rankings for bowlers. Rabada, who bowled South Africa to victory with 11 wickets in the second Test against Australia in Port Elizabeth on Monday (Mach 12), also crossed the coveted 900 rating points for the first time in his career.

The 22-year-old pacer is now 15 points ahead of the second-ranked England pacer James James Anderson, who is currently boasting 887 rating points to his name. Rabada happens to be the 23rd bowler in Test cricket history to cross 900 rating points and is only the fourth South African to do so after Vernon Philander (highest of 912 points in 2013), Shaun Pollock (909 in 1999) and Dale Steyn (909 in 2014).

India’s spin duo, Ravindra Jadeja (844 rating points) and Ravichandran Ashwin (803 rating points) are slotted at number 3 and 4 position respectively while Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood (796 rating points) retained the fifth spot. South Africa seamer Vernon Philander, who had attained the sixth spot after a successful Test series against India, saw a drop of two places in his rankings.

As far as the Test batting list is concerned – Australia skipper Smith is leading the table with a mammoth 943 rating points followed by India captain Virat Kohli (912 rating points). England captain Joe Root, who didn’t had the pleasant time in Ashes, slipped one place to the third spot with 881 rating points whereas Kane Williamson (855) and David Warner (831) are remain at No. 4 and 5 respectively.

South Africa’s batting maverick AB de Villiers is the major gainer in the latest rankings update, his scores of 126* and 28 helped him move up five slots to reach seventh position in the batsmen’s list. Hashim Amla also moved up one place to the ninth spot.
