SL v ENG 2018: England's social media team suffers from premature celebration against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's last wicket was saved using DRS review.

England won the Test match by 42 runs | Reuters England defeated Sri Lanka in the third and final Test in Colombo to whitewash the home team 3-0 in the three-match series. However, in their jest to celebrate the win, England social media handlers suffered from premature celebration as Sri Lanka delayed the inevitable using a DRS call.

Moeen Ali appeared to have trapped Suranga Lakmal in front of the wickets and the umpire raised his finger to put the final nail in the coffin of Sri Lankan innings as England won the match. Tweets and messages went out to celebrate the feat. Only Australia in 2004 and India in 2017 have recorded 3-0 sweeps in Sri Lanka.

England Cricket Board did not wait for Lakmal's review of the decision and created a stir on Twitter. The thing was that Lakmal called for the DRS review and the third umpire declared him not out.

In an attempt to salvage, the tweets were deleted and posts on other social media sites removed hurriedly.

England won the first Test in Galle by 211 runs and the second Test at Pallekele by 57 runs.
