England head coach Trevor Bayliss lavished praise on Joe Root after he led Lions’ to their first Test series win in Sri Lanka since 2001, saying it is just the beginning for Root –the captain and he will “improve even more” from the point where he is at the moment.

England has been clinical throughout their Sri Lanka tour and their 2-0 lead in the three-match series with one Test to be played on November 23 and the way they have shown their game and proved their mettle are the significant signs of progress of both team and Root’s captaincy.

It was England’s first away Test series triumph in last three years, while Root has been leading the Test team since the last 18 months and Bayliss believes that there are still areas to work on for Root.

Bayliss told reporters, “I still think he'll improve even more from where he's at at the moment. Like any young captain, he'd probably like to do a few things differently but the more you have these types of wins in these conditions, that just gives the captain confidence and the players confidence in the captain that he can make the right call. He'll just get better and better.”

Meanwhile, English coach has credited "positive intent" for the changes of personnel in the team that has obviously helped them in Sri Lanka. He pointed out, “There’s no secret we’ve been looking for two or three, maybe even four positions to get nailed down over the last few years. I think on this particular tour we’ve probably seen two or three of those positions getting nailed down. I think of the job that Burns and Foakes have done in their first two Tests – it looks like they’re playing their 30th or 40th Tests. Their calmness has been outstanding.”

Bayliss signed off by saying, “Look, we've always been about having that positive intent. Joe himself has probably taken that to another level but it doesn't necessarily mean guys like Foakes, Keaton Jennings and Burns have to go and play like Joe Root. It means going out and playing in a positive Keaton Jennings way for example and I think we've done that pretty well over here.”
