After crushing the Asian Islanders by 211 runs in the opening game of the three-match Test series in Galle, England will aim for series honors. The hosts Sri Lanka will look to hit back hard and level the series when the two sides lock horns in the second Test. The win at Galle was England's third consecutive win in Tests. They registered a 4-1 sweep over the Indian side last month and seems quite confident against Islanders side to start this series on a positive note. After that confidence-shattering loss in the opening game, the Islanders find themselves under enormous pressure as they will have to prevent a defeat here in order to keep the series alive. And their record at Pallekele makes it even worse; the hosts have managed just one win in their seven fixtures at this venue. Both teams have now faced each other in 32 test matches with the British leading the scoreline 13-8. The rest of eleven matches have ended in draws. While in case of 14 matches played in Sri Lanka, the scoreline is tied at 5-5, with four ending in stalemates.

Best economical pick – Dilruwan Perera took 5 wickets in the first innings of England and contributed some runs with his bat too. Apart from Mathews, he is the only Lankan player who should be satisfied with his performance in the first Test.

Top captains & vice captains – Keaton Jennings might have managed to shut many English critics with his knock of 146 in the third innings at Galle.Jennings' century was England's fourth second-innings hundred in their past four Tests. Keaton Jennings was especially impressive and now averages 70 against spin - and 18 against pace - in his 13-Test career. Another Englishman who baffled the audience was Ben Foakes, whose innings of 107 runs in 202 deliveries proved benefic in the long run, in projecting a total of 322 on board. Ben Foakes will collect his second Test cap against Sri Lanka this week, England Captain Joe Root has revealed.

Smart pick – Moeen Ali was the pick of the bowlers in the first test as he generated sharp bounce off the wicket. He bowled some brilliant top-spinners which bamboozled the Sri Lankan batsmen. He also gave the ball considerable flight and reaped the rewards for it by taking 8 wickets in the match.

Cautious Pick – Jonny Bairstow's recent wicket-keeping has been excellent. His statistics with the bat, however, have been adequate but unspectacular. He has averaged 27 in his last 17 Tests, albeit having played a few notable and influential innings, particularly his crucial 70 in the series-shaping first Test against India last summer.

My XI – Keaton Jennings (Captain), Ben Foakes (Vice-Captain), Adil Rashid, Dimuth Karunaratne, Joe Root, Dilruwan Perera, Moeen Ali,Suranga Lakmal, Jack Leach, Angelo Mathews, Jos Buttler
