Premier England fast bowler James Anderson has been charged one demerit point for breaching laws regarding the ICC Code of Conduct during the Day 2 of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle on Wed, November 7. 

Three Lions' leading wicket-taker in Tests was found violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which concerns “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match,” and now added to the demerit points to his name, with one already received for the same during during Day 2 of the fifth Test against India at The Oval in September. 

During the 39th over of Sri Lanka's first innings with the bat, Anderson showed dissent by first complaining at the umpire’s decision and then threw the ball into the pitch despite having been given a first warning from umpire Chris Gaffaney for running on the middle of the Galle surface. 

Anderson, afterwards, admitted and accepted his offence & the sanction proposed by officiating match referee Andy Pycroft, which ensured that there was no formal hearing of the matter, the ICC release further stated. 

The charge on Anderson was laid by on-field umpires Gaffaney and Marais Erasmus, as well as third umpire S Ravi and fourth umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge. The breach of Level 1 offence carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of his match fee, and one or two demerit points.
