Sri Lanka performed their best of the series till now in the 4th ODI. Batsmen Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka and Thisara Perera helped the team post an above par total on a tricky pitch. Although Jason Roy showed a lot of intent to begin with, the game was almost even-steven before rain decided to play spoilsport. It is very unfortunate that both the teams have not been tested as much as they would have liked in the series. Most of the matches have been curtailed due to rain and cricket has not been the only deciding factor. England have momentum on their side and it would be very tough for Sri Lanka to top that. Now that the series has already been decided, Sri Lanka will play for pride.

Best economical pick – Although Moeen Ali picked up more wickets against Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI, Adil Rashid was exceptionally economical during his spell. Not only did he restrict the Sri Lankan batting but also picked up a crucial wicket to apply brakes to the innings. Adil Rashid has backed his selection ever since he made a comeback earlier this year and is one of the mainstays in the English team.

Top captains & vice captains – Eoin Morgan is slowly finding the devastating form he once used to have at the best possible time. With just months to go for the ICC Cricket World Cup, Morgan’s form is good news for the English batting attack that already has the likes of Jos Buttler and Joe Root. Morgan did his job in the 4th ODI beautifully where he remained unbeaten till the end and kept the scoreboard ticking. Joe Root has been phenomenal so far this year. His performances have been consistent, making him one of the batsmen that England rely on heavily. Root, in his tour to Sri Lanka, has adapted really well to the sub-continent conditions and looks extremely stable every time he is on the crease. He was unbeaten in the last match where he ensured that England crossed the line and sealed the series.

Smart pick – Sri Lanka has been disappointing in the series so far. After getting knocked out in the Asia Cup in September, Sri Lanka has lost a home ODI series against England. While there are a lot of things not working for Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera’s form isn’t one of them. Perera has been exceptional with the bat and ball consistently now.

Cautious Pick – Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal has been out of form in the ODI format since a long time. Since March 2017, he has scored at a strike rate of 62 and with average also just 22 and being Captain. One of the reasons for SL downfall, he brings run rate down quite considerably if they have a good start.

My XI – Eoin Morgan (Captain), Joe Root (Vice-Captain), Jason Roy, Thisara Perera, Adil Rashid, Akila Dananjaya, Jos Buttler, Niroshan Dickwella, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Dasun Shanaka
