England beat Sri Lanka by 31 runs (by DLS mathod) in the second ODI game at Dambulla and took a lead of 1-0 in the five-match ODI series. After being put into bat first, England had a poor start and lost Jason Roy for a duck in the first over but Joe Root (71) and Eoin Morgan (92) helped England to post a good total of 278/9 on the board. For Sri Lanka, Lasith Malinga took 5 wickets for 44 runs.

In the chase Sri Lanka also had a terrible start and lost 4 wickets for just 31 runs. Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera and Dananjaya de Silva tried to bring back their team in the game and when they were looking good rain came down heavily and eventually match had to be called off. Sri Lanka suffered yet another loss in ODI cricket.
