Sri Lanka speedster Lasith Malinga rediscovered some of his old magic and claimed 5-44 to restrict England to 278-9 after the visitors looked set for a 300-plus total in the second ODI in Dambulla.

Jason Roy, Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and Liam Dowson were the five victims of Malinga. Ever since his return to the national side in Asia Cup 2018, Malinga has bagged 10 wickets in 4 ODIs. However, the pacer is still uncertain about his place in the side for the next year's World Cup in England.

"I feel that if I get the chance to play the World Cup, I will. It will be my last World Cup. I'm not expecting to get the chance, given the kinds of things that have happened to me over the recent past. But I will take it if it is given," Malinga quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Malinga didn't come back into the ODI side at the back of any stellar domestic showing. In fact, during the domestic provincial one-day tournament, he was serving IPL franchise Mumbai Indians as a bowling consultant. However, a reasonably good performance in the inaugural Canada Global T20 League and Sri Lanka’s own T20 provincial competition paved his way back to the national side.

"The selectors are entitled to make those decisions," Malinga said. "I'm just a player. My only job is to play when I get the chance. When I was out of the team, I went and played in Canada. I also played the district competition and got the highest wickets. Thanks to those performances I got another chance at this level. Because I'm nearing the end of my career I'm motivated to get wickets."

Pallekele will host the third ODI between Sri Lanka and England on Wednesday (October 17).
